Biography

This exotic, glamorous Swedish star was recruited by Germany to become the Third Reich's answer to Garbo and Dietrich (with her deep singing voice, she was more akin to the latter).

After the war, Leander was shunned in Sweden and Austria, and was only able to get a handful of film roles in Germany. Memories were short, though, and after a stage success in "Madame Scandaleuse" (1958), she was back on top. Though her film career was over, she appeared in the musicals "Lady aus Paris/The Lady from Paris" (1964) and "Wodka fur die Konigin/Vodka for the Queen" (1968), as well as on several TV shows. Leander died in her native Sweden in 1981.
